This celebratory, non-competitive event is the culminating experience of our 10-week program.

Pets are members of our family who offer us unconditional love. They are at our side on good days and bad days. Through their companionship we experience love and fulfillment. They make us focus on someone outside ourselves. When we lose our pet, the pain can be unbearable.
Join with others who are mourning the loss of a pet at our nondenominational Community Pet Remembrance Ceremony. Guest speaker is Leigh Steiner, pet doula. If you wish, bring a small memento of your pet. Reservations are suggested but not required.
Subterranean Sound and Vision presents “A Rotting World Double Feature” at the Illinois Theater in Jacksonville, Illinois on Saturday, May 17, 2026.
The event will feature screenings of the classic horror films The Last Man on Earth and Night of the Living Dead along with a meet and greet with the cast and crew of the independent horror film Holler.
Doors open for the meet and greet at 4:00 PM, and the films begin at 4:45 PM.
Guests can meet the filmmakers and actors behind Holler, purchase Holler merchandise, and enjoy theater concessions throughout the evening. Suggested support at the door helps support the completion of the independent film project.

The 64th Annual Carillon Festival with Carillonists from around the United States and Europe. Every evening welcoming music by local bands at 6pm. Carillon concerts at 6:30pm and 7:15pm. Food trucks and children activities every evening. Friday evening (May 22) we will host the traditional Fireworks starting at ~9:15pm. This is a FREE event. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic!

Join us for a panel discussion about national, state and local initiatives to reflect on the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and what that means for the future. CitizensClub board member Karen Witter will moderate a panel with Erin Mast, CEO of the Lincoln Presidential Foundation; Judy Wagenblast of the Illinois State Historical Society and Angela Wolfgram with the Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau. Erin Mast will share how national public history and civic education efforts are inspiring reflective patriotism and civic imagination. Judy Wagenblast will provide a state perspective on how history belongs to all of us. Angela Wolfgram will highlight examples of the many programs, exhibits and activities taking place throughout Springfield that connect with the bigger picture of public history andcivics engagement. Step into the spirit of the holidays with decor arranged by the Springfield Civic Garden Club. Enjoy the sparkle of art glass throughout the house. Tours run every 15 minutes; final departure at 6:30 PM. Post-tour cocoa and s'mores in the courtyard, with live music by Ben Bedford from 5:00 PM-6:30 PM. (No live music December 26.) Courtyard closes at 7:45 PM. Registration available through Eventbrite but not required.

Food Not Bombs Springfield, IL is holding a potluck meeting to discuss and plan upcoming community events while sharing a meal. Food Not Bombs rescues edible food that would otherwise be discarded and shares it freely with the community to address food insecurity, and to protest systems that prioritize wars, militarism, and food waste over the well-being of the people. Bringing a dish is not required for attendance, but it is requested that the food be vegan-friendly. This meeting is rescheduled for Tuesday due to the Monday holiday.
