An EF-1 tornado hit the city's north end late Wednesday, June 10. But sirens did not sound.

The secure key safe installed on a home’s entry door. It contains a house key that can only be accessed by the Springfield Fire Department using a department-controlled master key secured on responding fire apparatus. This allows firefighters to quickly enter a residence without causing damage.

Ed Canny has spent nearly three decades with the department in various roles.

Flooding and damage to the elevator system is under investigation.

Springfield now has two new firehouses operational with Fire Station Number 6's ribbon cutting on Thursday.

The department said the equipment will help firefighters on the job, including the handling of hazardous materials incidents and providing critical support during natural disasters.

The baby, Corbin Sarsany, is now two months old.
