Abigail Hemmer, a medical laboratory science major and commuter student from Springfield, plans to pursue a master’s degree and become a certified pathologists’ assistant after graduation.

Consumer protection advocates say the practice incentivizes the company to enroll as many students as possible, regardless of whether they’ll benefit. The university says their standards aren’t compromised.

This is the seventh year UIS has been given that ranking by U.S. News and World Report.

The building is expected to open in 2027.

The study shows UIS’ value extends well beyond its campus.
