Unions Take Aim At Rauner In GOP Primary

wuis

A major organized labor coalition says it plans to ``do everything possible'' to oppose Republican Bruce Rauner's bid for Illinois governor.
The Illinois AFL-CIO announced Thursday that its board approved a resolution to engage union members to defeat the Winnetka businessman.

Spokesman Bill Looby says the effort could include television advertisements and other initiatives. He says it will also be aimed at educating the public about Rauner's positions prior to the March primary.
Rauner is facing state Sens. Bill Brady and Kirk Dillard and state Treasurer Dan Rutherford for the GOP nomination.

The AFL-CIO says Rauner has ``repeatedly and publicly attacked unions.''
Rauner has blasted public employee union bosses and says he's the only candidate who will stand up to them. He says he's ready for labor's attacks.
