The world-renowned radio telescope at the Arecibo Observatory in northern Puerto Rico, now on the brink of collapse, is set to be withdrawn from service, the National Science Foundation (NSF) announced today.

As companies around the world race to develop coronavirus vaccines, hundreds of thousands of people in China were inoculated with a vaccine before its efficacy was proven in trials. Now, researchers have released preliminary results that show the vaccine produces an immune response, although it's too early to say whether it can prevent disease.

Lil Wayne was charged in federal court Tuesday with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a felon. The 38-year-old rapper is facing 10 years in prison for the offense, if convicted.

Documents filed in the Southern District of Florida Court identify him by his given name, Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. and allege that he had a gun with him on his private plane last December, "knowing that he had previously been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment."

Parades will be prohibited at New Orleans' Mardi Gras celebration in 2021 to limit the spread of the coronavirus, Mayor LaToya Cantrell's office said Tuesday.

Typically marked by parades and parties, the holiday is the Louisiana city's biggest tourism draw.

People who attended a wedding on Nov. 7 near Ritzville, Wash., have tested positive for the coronavirus. Health officials are asking more than 300 people who were in attendance to get tested and quarantine through Nov. 21, the Grant County Health District said Monday in a statement.

Hurricane Iota has made landfall in Nicaragua as a Category 4 storm, with the Central American region bracing for the possibility of catastrophic damage.

Iota crossed into Nicaragua near the town of Haulover, approximately 15 miles south of where Hurricane Eta also struck as a Category 4 on Nov. 3.
