April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and this year's theme is "Embrace Your Voice." Many survivors of sexual assault have done just that over the past several months, due in part to the #MeToo movement.
The Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault, Black Sheep venue and NPR Illinois are joining forces for a communal art project. This Friday, the kick off event at Black Sheep from 7 - 9:30 will include an open mic and a station for the public to design and write "survivor love letters" - that is, anonymous letters to those who have survived sexual assault. Through out the month of April, NPR Illinois will host a letter writing station during normal business hours (M-F, 9-5.) Members of the public are welcome to come write letters and see a display of the ones completed. There will be a reception for the exhibit on April 27th at the NPR Illinois station, from 5 - 7pm.
