Join us for a free reception for the annual member show of the Illinois Prairie Pastel Society. The reception, March 6, 2026 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Springfield Art Association is free and open to the public. The show runs until March 28, 2026.

Ethan Posey, Director of the Springfield’s Community Relations Department, will discuss with retired journalist Bernie Schoenburg new initiatives and ongoing work which are designed to ensure city residents fair treatment. The Citizens Club invites you to hear Posey address concerns related to discrimination, civil rights, and quality of life including landlord-tenant issues, complaints related to employment discrimination, and support for unhoused individuals.The office also oversees the Community Outreach Team. Posey has spearheaded efforts to improve quality of life in underserved areas, to help spur homeownership through rehabilitation of dilapidated properties on the east side, and to provide training and resources to minority business owners and nonprofit leaders. He serves as the city liaison to the Disabilities Commission and the Police Community Review Board.

Join us for a guided tour of the Dana-Thomas House State Historic Site. Susan Lawrence Dana hired architect Frank Lloyd Wright to design a home where she could advance ideas about education and democracy. They created one of the best-preserved examples of Wright’s “organic architecture,” containing more than 100 pieces of custom furniture and over 250 works of original art glass. We invite you to see and experience the Dana-Thomas House by taking a guided tour of the site. Each guided tour lasts approximately one hour. Two tours will be provided each evening, one at 5:30 and one at 6:30.

Learn about using sacramental records to trace your family history. Presentation will include a brief overview of how to get started doing genealogy and a detailed look at sacramental records and the information they contain. There will be a special focus on using Church records to trace African American/Black family history.
Katie Oubre, MLIS, CA, CRM is the Vice-Chancellor for Archives and Records for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois. She has worked for the Diocese for over nine years and previously worked for the Diocese of Baton Rouge Archives. She is the Immediate Past President of the Association of Catholic Diocesan Archivists.

Each month, we invite our youngest visitors (0-5 years) and their caregivers to participate in Little Lincoln’s Fireside Tales. This early learning program focuses on reading stories and engaging children in activities and play around a fun theme that changes monthly.
