Business Report: H.D. Smith Sold; Kmart's Long History In Springfield; Pillsbury Mills Update

SJ-R

Sean Crawford talks with State Journal-Register Business Editor Tim Landis.

This week:

* Sale of H.D. Smith wholesale pharmaceutical to AmerisourceBergen of Pennsylvania for $815 million and what it might mean for 360 local employees (not clear yet).

* Pillsbury Mills: Turns out there is an unknown amount of asbestos remaining after $1.8 million federal cleanup; too dangerous for workers in hard-to-reach areas so now focus is keeping trespassing down.

* Clear Lake Kmart: Now among oldest in country after the first Kmart opened in Garden City, Michigan in 1962 closed early this year; the local store opened in 1963. Last of at one time three Kmarts in Springfield.
