Business Report: First Fracking Permit Granted; Pillsbury Cleanup; Food Allergy Law

WSIU

Sean Crawford talks with State Journal-Register Business Editor Tim Landis.

This week --

* Pillsbury cleanup: A lot more toxic contamination there than first thought, though not entirely surprising. Federal EPA approved another $200,000 toward what will be a $1.6 million project and cleanup now expected to wrap up in October.

* First fracking permit: Woolsey Companies Inc. of Wichita plans to start work soon on first well under 2013 state law; only one well for now. Opponents vow to fight for statewide ban.

* Downtown students: 11 downtown businesses offering discounts to UIS-LLCC students; latest effort to draw students downtown.

* Food allergy law: Restaurants in Illinois must have at least one person on premises certified in food allergy safety as of July 1, 2018; six-month grace period begins Jan. 1.
