This is the WUIS Christmas Archives... for Sunday... December 15th. I'm Rich Bradley
In 1973... in the Illinois State Register... posters promoting Memorial Hospital's holiday concert... and featuring the Springfield Municipal Choir... are being hung by 5th grade students from Ball Elementary in Chatham. A photo shows Ellyn Fox and Laurie Phillips in the hospital cafeteria.
Some clothing ads... ranging from the Ladies' Dressy Blouse with ruffles down the front... to Male Fashion Briefs in “deep dark shades for fashion” at Woolco. At Myers Brothers... and ad implies they offer “calculated action for the man of leisure”... with a bold flannel shirt in “arrogant red” with denim bell-bottom jeans... or cuffed pin-wale corduroys.
Kay Jewelers has cocktail and dinner rings to help the ladies get “all dressed up for Christmas”... and B&J Coin Shop urges giving the “the tender touch” for Christmas... the legal tender touch... that is. And... for the kiddies... your old friend Santa will be on hand at the Capital City Shopping Center every Friday and Saturday until Christmas. In "Family Circus"... Billy wonders why his mom doesn't read the whole poem in her Christmas cards... rather than just looking at who it's from.
Springfield's Drum & Bugle Corps... The Capital Chargers... are holding its annual Christmas party at the VFW next week... and there is a free showing of the animated cartoon “The Night Before Christmas”... at the IL State Museum Sunday.
That's the WUIS Christmas Archives for Sunday... December 15th. I'm Rich Bradley.
