Illinois' director of public health under former Governor Pat Quinn has found a new job.
Dr. LaMarHasbrouck will take over next month as the head of the National Association of County and City Health Officials.
In a press release Hasbrouck calls strong local health departments a "backbone." He'll begin his new job February 10.
Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner has named 37-year-old Nirav Shah as Illinois' public health director; he's already started, though the position is subject to Senate confirmation.
Shah had been working as an attorney at a top Chicago law firm, and lectured at the University of Chicago medical school. He holds both law and medical degrees from the U of C.
