Business Report: Race Riot Site; YWCA; State Fair Vendors To Get Overdue Payments

SJ-R

NPR Illinois' Sean Crawford talks with the State Journal-Register's Tim Landis.

This week:

A 1908 Race Riot site is being recognized - It was discovered as part of the rail work near the Carpenter Street underpass in Springfield.  As it stands now, the plan remains to build tracks over it, though no one expects that to happen without some sort of memorial to the site.  There could be a historic marker, relocation or some other "mitigation.  A final report will come this fall.

YWCA block update -  Springfield has asked the two bidders for additional information.  The two have different ideas about redeveloping the site.  But the city has decided the one proposing 200 apartments, retail-commercial etc. is a bit too ambitious.

2015 fair vendors will get their money - The stopgap state budget provides funding to pay the long overdue bills.  It also includes money for the 2016 fair.
