Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner says not having a term limits measure on November's ballot is a temporary setback.
He told reporters Sunday he'll ``campaign very aggressively'' on term limits in both his bid to unseat Gov. Pat Quinn and on behalf of state lawmakers who commit to term limits. A new ad released Sunday focuses on term limits.
Rauner led a petition drive for the ballot measure calling for term limits, among other things. Courts deemed it unconstitutional. On Friday the Illinois Supreme Court rejected a request to consider the measure and the State Board of Elections certified a ballot without the question.
Rauner says even longtime Republicans officeholders he's publicly praised _ recently U.S. Rep. John Shimkus and state Sen. Chapin Rose _ ``should term limit themselves.''
Shimkus promised to limit his terms when he first ran for office, but later changed his stance.
