Amtrak says it will stop train service on the route that runs through central Illinois starting October 17.

Instead, bus service will be used for two weeks as improvements are made along the line that stretches from Chicago to St. Louis and stops in Springfield.  It's part of the work being done for the federal high speed rail program.

The Texas Eagle train that comes from out of state will be re-routed.
