Longtime residents of the Springfield area will recall the Concordia Theological Seminary. For about 100 years, it taught those who would become leaders of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. The seminary moved to Indiana in 1975.
Today, the Department of Corrections uses the buildings for training. The site also housed what was once known as Illinois State University, during Abraham Lincoln's time.
While this piece of property along North 13th Street has a rich history, not everyone knows about it. That will change when an historical marker is placed there in the next few weeks.
We discuss that with three guests: Ralph Woerhmann - a Concordia alum from 1974, Reverend Mark Miller - President of the Central Illinois District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and Stuart Fliege - with the Illinois State Historical Society and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

A special service will be held Sunday, October 27, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church - 2645 Old Jacksonville Road in Springfield at 2 p.m.
The marker will be on display that day prior to being placed at the former seminary site.
