Community Voices: Someone You Should Know, Father Augustus Tolton

http://www.toltoncatholic.org/biography-of-father-tolton/
Fr. Augustus Tolton

February is Black History Month. African Americans everywhere are celebrated especially those who made a difference in society.

Have you ever thought about the influential people we do not hear about?

Fr. Daren Zehnle a priest of the Diocese of Springfield, IL and pastor of St. Augustine Church in Ashland stopped by the studio to tell the story of Fr. Augustus Tolton, the first African American priest in the United States of America.

Fr. Daren Zehnle believes people should take time to learn about the history and legacy of Fr. Augustus Tolton not only because he is the first African American priest in the United States of America, but also because he served in Quincy, IL , just 2 hours from Springfield.

More information on Fr. Augustus Tolton and his process for canonization here
