Severe Weather Possible Wednesday

National Weather Service - Lincoln

Forecasters say a mixture of bad weather that could bring tornadoes is expected as a strong storm system plows toward the central U.S. from the Rocky Mountains.

Heavy snow is possible in the Plains states and high winds could lead to whiteout conditions.

The Storm Prediction Center says an area from Nebraska to Illinois might face high winds, large hail and tornadoes Wednesday.

Central Illinois is in the area designated "enhanced" potential for severe weather.  We could see showers and thunderstorms develop, likely after 3 p.m. Wednesday.  Winds could gust as high as 35 mph.

Later in the evening, severe storms are possible.  Wind gusts of up to 50 mph are expected.  The chance of rain is at 80%.

Even as the storms move out Thursday, it will remain windy with gusts at 45 mph.

You're reminded to stay tuned for weather information.
