New COVID-19 Testing Sites In Springfield, Decatur

HSHS Medical Group is offering COVID-19 testing in Springfield and Decatur. The medical group is using federal funds from the first coronavirus aid package to set up the drive-through sites.

Anyone who has symptoms, has been exposed to someone with COVID-19, or needs a screening to return to work or school can get a free assessment and test. Children can be screened at these sites as well.

Symptoms include a cough, fever, chills, repeated shaking with chills, muscle pain, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, headache, sore throat, or loss of taste or smell.

Those who wish to be tested must register for a MyChart account on HSHS’ COVID-19 testing websiteor the MyChart app on a smartphone. Results will be available within two to seven days on the account.

The locations are:

- Scheels parking lot, 3801 S. MacArthur Blvd., Springfield

- HSHS Medical Group Family & Sports Medicine parking lot, 4965 Lost Bridge Rd., Decatur

The sites are open Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Springfield has other testing options, as well.

SIU Medicine offers screening at Abundant Faith Christian Center, 2525 Taylor Ave. to anyone – regardless of symptoms – Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The site will be closed Wednesdays. On Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon, SIU Medicine operates a mobile testing operation that will be at Union Baptist Church, 1405 E. Monroe St., on September 18; and Progressive Church of God in Christ, 1625 E. Ash St. on September 25. More information is on SIU Medicine’s website .

Anyone over 18, regardless of symptoms, can be screened for COVID-19 at the Walgreens site, 1155 N. 9th Street. To schedule an appointment, visit their website .

Anyone with symptoms or who has been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19 can be screened at the Memorial Medical Center clinic at 2950 S. Sixth Street. For appointments, call 217-588-4019. The clinic is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The Illinois Deparmtent of Public Health will not be hosting a COVID-19 testing site at the state fairgrounds this Wednesday.
