A Springfield meteorologist who made headlines across the country after refusing to go along with his TV station’s promotion of Code Red severe weather alerts has a new job.
Starting Monday, Joe Crain will oversee the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum’s public events.
He’s been off the air at WICS since early June and was fired soon after. A joint statement later indicated the two sides had resolved their differences, but details were never released.
The dismissal prompted a huge outcry among local viewers and the story was picked up nationally. Even late night TV paid attention.
A statement from the Library says Crain will develop public programs and market events. “Joe has tremendous relationships with people throughout the region. He will be able to help us develop programming that clicks with local audiences and then spread the word with his trademark enthusiasm,” said Executive Director Alan Lowe.
On his Facebook page, Crain wrote he looks forward to "strengthening the capital city's crown jewel."
He’ll earn $75,000 a year in his new position.
