Architecture Tours Planned At Dana-Thomas House

springfield.il.us

A new Frank Lloyd Wright architecture tour is being offered at a Springfield historic site designed by the famed Illinois architect.

The ``Wright Concepts'' tours are being offered from November through January at the Dana-Thomas House.
A docent will explain Wright's design principles while taking visitors through the unique home.
The Dana-Thomas House was built between 1902 and 1904 and is considered to be one of the best-preserved of Wright's prairie-style homes. Located in downtown Springfield, it has more than 400 pieces of specially made art glass and original furnishings.

Heiress Susan Lawrence Dana commissioned Wright to dramatically remodel the family mansion shortly after she was widowed. Medical publisher Charles Thomas later owned the home. It was bought by the state of Illinois in the 1980s.
