Proposed Copper Mine In Alaska Threatens One Of World's Most Valuable Fisheries

A long-time battle against a proposed copper mine in southwestern Alaska has divided communities. Some locals believe the mine could mean an economic upturn for the region.

But as John Ryan (@heyjohnryan) of KUOW reports, others — including people downstream in Washington state — fear the mine could damage the sockeye salmon ecosystem.
