Lopez & Eastvold Lay Out Opposing Tax Referendum Ideas To Help Schools

School districts across the state are facing increasingly desperate budget situations, and the future doesn't look much better if things continue down the some path. The state is not kicking in what it's previously promised, and now it looks like those appropriations could be cut further. A community group in Springfield, called 'Invest in 186' is pushing the school board to pass a property tax referendum, and ask local residents to help fill the budget hole. Katharine Eastvold, who ran unsuccessfully for school board - is one of the people leading that effort. Adam Lopez is vice president of the school board. He agrees a tax hike is needed - but he'd rather see a county-wide sales tax referendum. If passed by voters, it would benefit all schools in Sangamon County.
