The Illinois House passed a measure Thursday to removes sales tax on feminine hygiene products sold in the state.

Rep. Will Guzzardi, D-Chicago, sponsored the legislation in the House. He said the measure will help women in Illinois who already pay more than men on services and products like dry cleaning, shaving cream and deodorant.

"I believe that not only should we not be complicit in making it more expensive to be a woman, we should in fact be working to combat that," he said.

The measure passed the House without opposition. The Senate passed it last month, so it now goes to the governor.

Removing the tax on tampons and other feminine hygiene products would mean a slight hit to state revenues.
