Listen to State Week - October 24, 2014

Bruce Rauner and Pat Quinn

Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn and Republican challenger Bruce Rauner met for their third and final debate this week. As in previous debates, both candidates spent much of their time attacking each other and dodging questions they didn't want to answer.

Meanwhile, frequent State Week guest and respected Statehouse reporter Dave McKinney quit the Chicago Sun-Times, saying the paper sidelined him after the Rauner campaign complained about a story. "I’m convinced this newspaper no longer has the backs of reporters like me," he wrote in a public resignation letter.

Kurt Erickson, the Springfield bureau chief of Lee Enterprises Newspapers, joins guest host Sean Crawford and regular panelists Charlie WheelerAmanda Vinicky and Brian Mackey:

Brian Mackey formerly reported on state government and politics for NPR Illinois and a dozen other public radio stations across the state. Before that, he was A&E editor at The State Journal-Register and Statehouse bureau chief for the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.
