The former director of bands at the University of Illinois has pleaded guilty to stealing musical instruments from the school and sentenced to a form of probation.

Robert Rumbelow pleaded guilty Tuesday in Champaign County Circuit Court to one count of felony theft. According to The News-Gazette (http://bit.ly/1doNcdP) he was sentenced to two years of conditional discharge.
Rumbelow declined comment through his attorney.

According to prosecutors the 48-year-old Rumbelow stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of instruments in 2012 and sold them. He put the money in a personal bank account and initially claimed he sold them to help finance building repairs for his department on campus.
He resigned from his job and repaid the university $87,600 for the value of the instruments
