SJ-R.com

Sean Crawford talks with State Journal-RegisterBusiness Editor Tim Landis.

This week:

* J.C. Penney: Isn't closing in Springfield; normally not big news, but that particular store has been an anchor at Dirksen and South Grand for more than 45 years.

* SMTD/ multi-modal center: Demolition should begin any day at Ninth and Adams for off-street transfer facility for SMTD; expecting to move by end of the year from Fifth and Capitol.  This is the first piece of long-term plans for public transportation hub with rail consolidation.

* Ridgely Village Hall: One of those long-running disputes over a historic, but otherwise crumbling structure.  It appears to be ending with demolition. The judge has given owners of the building on Peoria Road 45 days to fix it or tear it down. The oldest section of the structure served as a village hall and jail for village of Ridgely in 1885 until the village annexed to Springfield in 1907.
