Business Report: Update On Panhandling Cases; Carpenter St. Project Nears Finish; Casey's Expands

WUIS

Sean Crawford talks with the State Journal-Register's Tim Landis for our weekly Business Report.

This week:

* Panhandling Ordinances:  Two constitutional challenges to Springfield's moves to reduce panhandling in the downtown area.  We talk about the fact "aggressive" panhandling is still against the law.

* Booming Casey's: Iowa based convenience store is closing in on 2,000 locations, including a new one in Springfield and one under construction in Lincoln; nearly 100 under construction or contract this year.  We discuss why Casey's has done well.

* Lincoln Heritage Area: Bipartisan legislation in Congress would add Livingston County, and Lincoln-Douglas debate sites in Freeport and Jonesboro to the existing 42-county area; local Looking for Lincoln  folks said would "complete" the area, but no extra money coming.

* Carpenter Street Underpass: First $20.3 million piece of rail consolidation to open in August.  It will also improve hospital access.
