Business Report: Raising Money For State Fairgrounds, Girard Supermarket Re-opens, Bank Merger

Illinois State Fair Entry Gate

Sean Crawford talks with the State Journal-Register's Tim Landis.

On this week's business report:

* We talk about state fair foundations.  A proposal in Illinois would create a public-private partnership to make repairs at the Springfield and Du Quoin fairgrounds.  We hear how other state foundations raise money for state fairs, including the Iowa Corndog Checkoff.

* A fire nearly a year ago destroyed the  Girard County Market.  It re-opens this week as a larger store with more services.

* Morton Community Bank taking over Illini Bank of Springfield. It's the latest in a series of acquisitions-mergers among community banks that like so much else need to get bigger to compete.

* The Springfield Kerasotes Building at Sixth and Washington is all but full up.  It could be a sign of the future in the downtown.   An owner says smaller office space in demand, compared to the vacant state government office spaces that are too big for most tenants.
