Local Underground Railroad Conductor to be Honored

A local underground railroad conductor who is buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery will be honored. John Albert Jones was a friend of Abraham Lincoln and a resident of Springfield for many years. John Ackerman, Tazewell County Clerk and underground railroad historian, will conduct the ceremony and provide history. Reenactor Pat Foster will portray Jones. The event is a joint program of the Sangamon County and Tazewell County Historical Societies and will be held near the cemetery's bell tower. Attendees are asked to bring a lawn chair.
