Oscars Best Picture Rankings

Feb 9, 2020
Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences

To put it in the most purely academic term I can think of, it has been a stupid good year for film. This year’s Academy Awards features categories overflowing with strong choices, so much so that a whole separate show could be cobbled together featuring all the overlooked nominees. There are still some snubs that hurt, and the Academy’s diversity problem is still a much too slow work in progress, but it also feels as if the Academy’s Best Picture lineup is the strongest its been in a long time.

Democratic Candidates as Best Picture Nominees

Feb 3, 2020
Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences

It’s a harrowing time for Hollywood Democrats. As we speak, Academy voters are logging in and submitting their votes for the Academy Awards. At the same time, voters everywhere are preparing for their state’s primaries to select a candidate in the Democratic primary (The Republicans already have their candidate, so Jon Voight can rest easy). While on the surface, these seem like very disparate events (with only one having some actual stakes behind them), this year’s contests seem very similar.

OSCAR SPOTLIGHT - Parasite

Jan 28, 2020
CJ Entertainment

Our #OscarSpotlight series continues with a breakdown of the wire-to-wire best-reviewed film of 2019; Bong Joon-Ho's searing social drama #Parasite. All unemployed, Ki-taek and his family take peculiar interest in the wealthy and glamorous Parks, as they ingratiate themselves into their lives and get entangled in an unexpected incident.

Yes movie fans, the day has come once again. The nominations for 92nd Annual Academy Awards have been announced and, as always, there’s equal parts joy and anger to go around. I don’t think there’s quite anything in the movie world that inspires so much happiness and head-scratching at the exact same time as the yearly Oscar nominations. Per usual, there’s plenty of snubs and surprises to catalog.
