Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner has released parts of his 2014 state and federal tax returns that show he and his wife, Diana, made $58.3 million last year.
The Rauners paid more than $18 million in federal and state taxes for a combined tax rate of about 31 percent.
They paid $15.2 million in federal income taxes and $2.8 million in state income taxes. Rauner released four pages of tax returns, without supporting documents that would show the source of his wealth.
During last year's governor's race, his Democratic opponent, then-Gov. Pat Quinn, criticized Rauner for releasing only part of his tax returns.
The Rauners earned about $35.4 million in capital gains, which can come from financial investments or real estate. Rauner is not accepting a salary as Illinois governor.
