American Commutes Are Getting Longer, Census Data Show

The average American commute ticked up to 26.9 minutes in 2017 from 26.6 minutes the year before, according to new data from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. All told, that means U.S. commuters spent an extra 2.5 hours in traffic last year.
