Christmas Archives for December 4, 2013

This is the WUIS Christmas Archives for Wednesday... December 4th.  I'm Rich Bradley.

In 1962... December 4th was a Tuesday.   The Illinois State Register noted there are just 17 shopping days left before Christmas... and that so far... it does not look like it'll be a white Christmas.  Springfield is experiencing erratic weather... and many residents report flowers in bloom!  And the Springfield post office appeals for the community to shop and mail early.

Meanwhile... the Ashland Junior Women's club continues its Christmas lighting contest... the VFW post 755 is planning Christmas parties for children and adults... and the Municipal Building pools will soon sprout 3 decorative Christmas trees of graduated heights.

And... Holiday gift ideas abound:  readers are encouraged to choose enjoyable... appropriate and useful gifts for kids... gifts like recreational items... toys... sports... books or cameras.  An ad for holiday gifts and parties includes a Kentucky whiskey advertisement depicting a happy couple... hugging a snowman.

The Arthur Murray Dance Studio on East Monroe... is prepared to teach you the new steps needed for “holiday good times.”  They are open each weekday afternoon.

Local businesses are offering:  a free stuffed animal with your dry cleaning order of five dollars or more... a free 20 pound... LIVE turkey... with the purchase of any major appliance from Brunk's Farm & Home Store.   And... there are tips on making tree decorations.

That's the WUIS Christmas Archives for Wednesday... December 4th.  I'm Rich Bradley.
