This is the WUIS Christmas Archives... for Tuesday... December 10th. I'm Rich Bradley... and on this day in 1961... the Illinois State Register reports the 124th Annual Governor's Christmas party for the children of the Springfield area will be held in the Armory on December 23rd. There is a huge decorated Christmas tree inside. The governor will attend... and plans to pass out candy to each child at the end of the event. Oh... and Santa will also make an appearance.
The Theater Guild's junior program... consisting of 18 fourth... fifth... sixth-graders... is presenting two Christmas plays this week: “A Christmas Dream”... an original play written by junior theater class member Lynn DeKraker. It will be followed by the Christmas pageant... “Still Shine the Star.”
The Springfield Knights of Columbus #364 wrapped up their "Toys for Tots" drive with 320 toys for area children.
The Spfld Chapter of the Sweet Adelines is presenting a Christmas choral concert as part of a series to enhance the downtown area with special Christmas features. The highlight of the series is a community “Sing-along with Santa” on December 20th.
An area family with ten children... ranging in age from 2 to 16... will be helped by this year's Friend-In-Deed Fund... which has raised over 250-thousand dollars so far... and more donations are needed.
