Though originally from Knoxville, Tenn., country singer-songwriter Ashley Monroe is now very much a part of Nashville. You may know her as part of Pistol Annies, along with Miranda Lambert and Angaleena Presley — kind of a "girl's night out" of country bands. On her own, Monroe has released two solo albums, both produced by Vince Gill. The latest, out this year, is titled The Blade.
In this World Cafe session, Monroe shares how writing music provided her with solace after her father died of cancer when she was 13, and performs songs from The Blade with an acoustic version of her stage band.
