Los Angeles producer Henry Laufer, who goes by Shlohmo, made a name for himself in 2012 with a narcotic remix of Jeremih's "F--- You All The Time." The R&B star took notice and started working with Shlohmo in a more official capacity, resulting in last year's No More EP.
Shlohmo appears determined to break out of Jeremih's shadow next month with the release of his third album, Dark Red. Perhaps it was the producer's ties to R&B over the past few years, but it was hard to predict anything quite as raucous as "Beams," Dark Red's third single and highlight.
"Beams" is a veritable drum-and-bass anthem, not something you hear too often on this side of the Atlantic. The song has received the NSFW treatment by Vine connoisseur Jack Irving, who documented a number of twentysomethings breaking laws and having fun. It's an exhilarating partnership.
Dark Red is out April 7 on True Panther and WeDidIt.
