A member of a board that helps choose engineers to
design Illinois roads has resigned after he co-hosted a political fundraiser for the chairman of the state Senate's Transportation Committee.
The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting (http://tinyurl.com/lwj4cue ) Monday that
Amir Al-Khafaji resigned Aug. 7 because of his involvement with the $1,000-a-ticket event for Cicero Democratic Sen. Martin Sandoval.
Al-Khafaji is a Bradley University engineering professor and member of an
Illinois Department of Transportation committee that meets to choose the best
engineers for roads and bridges.
The Sun-Times says IDOT investigated after emails showed unnamed engineering
firms complained about perceived political pressure.
Al-Khafaji says there are no rules against political involvement and he did
nothing wrong. Sandoval says he didn't know Al-Khafaji was on the road board.
