City of Springfield Announces Process To Fill Ward 5 Aldermanic Seat

The City of Springfield will soon fill an upcoming vacancy on the council. Ward 5 Alderman Andrew Proctor has accepted a new opportunity out of the city and will be resigning effective August 25, according to Springfield officials.

Ward 5 Aldermanic Requirements:

  • Must be a current resident of Ward 5.
  • Must have lived in the ward a minimum one year (by August 1, 2021).
  • Must be eligible to vote in the Springfield Municipal election.
  • May not be employed by the City of Springfield

Resumes must be received by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2021.

All submissions will be reviewed, and interviews will be conducted the final week of August. The Mayor will announce the selection that will go in front of the City Council for approval on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

The vacancy of Ward 5 falls within the 28-month window of the next City election and because of this, the person appointed will fulfill the remaining Aldermanic term that will expire in the spring of 2023.
