The Year In Central Illinois Philanthropy

CFLL

It’s Community Foundation Week.  And in central Illinois, the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln is wrapping up another successful year of helping administer and facilitate philanthropy.

President and CEO John Stremsterfer said assets have grown to around $35 million, a $6 million increase in the past year.  Nearly $2 million was given out this year to various causes as directed by individuals, families, businesses and others.

The year also saw the handoff of Innovate Springfield to the University of Illinois Springfield.  The project was developed a few years back to develop economic growth with for-profit entrepreneurs and address social concerns.

Now with UIS taking it over, Stremsterfer sees Innovate Springfield continuing to grow.

“In think that will help sustain the efforts, for one.  And two, accelerate the effort all around by having more resources, not just in Springfield, but through the University of Illinois system,” he said.
