Gov. Bruce Rauner closed the Illinois State Museum last fall, citing the lack of a state budget. The museum in Springfield reopened over the weekend and is now charging a five-dollar admission fee. The Dickson Mounds site is also open to the public again.
Employees remained on the job during the closure. They spent the time sprucing up the place and cataloging collections. They also laid the groundwork for the museum to expand its reach online.
Jamey Dunn sat down with director Mike Wiant to talk about the museum's plans for the future.
