Ever imagine going into a stranger's house and poking through their things? Well, that was kind of Allyson Packer's premise for her latest art show.
She had permission of course, and gathered items Springfield residents previously had tucked away in their closets and attics, far from public viewing.
"I will admit that part of my interest in this project was generated from being a thrift store addict," Packer said. She's also interested in generating conversations and social engagement. "I really do think of every project that I do as an invitation in some manner."
Packer hails from New Mexico. She has an MFA from The Art Institute of Chicago and is one of the latest winners of the summer residency program sponsored by the UIS Visual Arts Gallery and the Enos Park Residency for Visual Artists.
The reception for 'Interior Space' is this Thursday night at the UIS gallery from 5:30 - 8. It will include a sound installation by ZW Buckley. For more information about it, click here, and listen to the conversation Packer had with us about it:
