Springfield may not be known as a particularly cinematic town, but it is home to its share of film-makers. Kimberly Conner is one of them. Her movies include Jump Inand This Life Ain’t Prettyhave been critically acclaimed and nationally distributed. Conner’s movies have black stars and explore issues like love, forgiveness, and the personal struggle of dealing with disease – like AIDS.

Conner grew up and lived in Champaign for many years, but she has called Springfield home for over a decade. She has a new movie set to be released this summer (Before 'I Do') , and she spoke with me about herself and her life’s work:
