The colder weather has again brought an end to leisurely strolling the outdoor farmer's market in downtown Springfield. But there's plenty to look forward to as the winter approaches.
Fresh produce and other items will be on sale at both the Holiday Farmer's Markets and Winter Farmer's Markets. Both will be held this season in the State House Inn at 101 East Adams.
Molly Gleason of the Illinois Stewardship Alliance, which manages the post-summer events, said it will tap into the already strong crowd that attends the Old Capitol Farmer's Market at other times of the year. Previously, the Holiday Market was held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds and the Winter Market at the Third Presbyterian Church.
"This will keep it all downtown," she said. "It was really confusing for people for people to know where to go to find local food in the winter time. Connecting it back to downtown on the same street as the Old Capitol Farmer's Market, that was really important to us."
