After Decades Of Progress, Women's Employment Has 'Fallen Off A Cliff' Since The Pandemic

In December, women outnumbered men in the non-farm payroll workforce, which had only happened once before — during the recession in 2009.

The trend was expected to continue, but then came the coronavirus pandemic. Currently, the unemployment rate for women is higher than it is for men.

Host Jeremy Hobson talks with Betsey Stevenson, professor of public policy and economics at the University of Michigan and former chief economist for the U.S. Department of Labor, about how the economic crisis caused by the pandemic has affected women’s employment.
