Brittanie N. Brooks is a graduate student in the Public Affairs Reporting program at the University of Illinois Springfield. She previously worked at WEIU News Watch in Charleston, Illinois where she worked on two Emmy winning shows. She is a 2014 broadcast news graduate of Eastern Illinois University.

In her spare time, Brittanie enjoys meditating and practicing yoga. On her half birthday in June, she participated in a yoga marathon completing 108 sun salutation to welcome the summer solstice.

Univ. of Illinois

The University of Illinois Board of Trustees has voted to give retiring President Robert Easter a bonus as he prepares to retire.

Easter will receive the additional $167,200 even though he is leaving office May 18.

Board Chairman Ed McMillan says the award was performance based and a part of the president's contract.

"So it wasn't a raise it was actually the payment of the performance bonus objectives which was established at the beginning of the year," McMillan said.

One of Springfield’s oldest homes faces demolition unless a new owner is found.  The Condell House on South Fourth Street has been vacant for about 30 years.

Steve Myers Vice Chairman of the Springfield Historic Sites Commission says the goal is to find a new owner soon before a part of history is gone.


U-S Senator Dick Durbin says a common household item has become too tempting for some kids and it's making them sick.

Durbin said last year he learned about the alarming number of children eating the little pods that some laundry detergent manufacturers produce.  Poison control centers had over 17-thousand reports last year.
