Springfield area home sales are up slightly compared to last year.

The most recent survey found nearly 3 percent more homes were sold this year for the period January through September.

While sales were up, the prices are have been steady, down 0.4 percent.

That's despite fewer homes for sale. Total housing inventory at the end of September 2015 fell to 1,649 listings, down from the 1,668 listings in the prior month and down from the 1,812 listings at the end of September 2014.

Capital Area Realtors says the median sale price in and around Sangamon County this year is $118-thousand dollars.

"The good news for buyers is that limited inventory hasn’t resulted in unhealthy price appreciation,” said Capital Area Realtors President Kristie DeBrun.

Home sales continue to rebound although the number of sales remains lower than pre-recession levels.
