The Art Center is excited to bring 100 Faces of War, an exhibition organized for travel by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibit Service in collaboration with artist Matt Mitchell, to the midwest. This incredibly moving exhibit features 100 oil painted portraits of veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, however, the statements and narratives that accompany each portrait ring true for veterans of any war. Artist Matt Michell spent nearly ten years traveling across the country, connection with various members of all branches and ranks of service where he not only sat down with them to paint their portraits, but to hear and share their stories with the world. Opening reception will take place Friday, March 13, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Art Center, 1515 Jersey St., where there will be a special musical appearance by the Band on the Bus. Admission is free and open to the public. If you are unable to attend the opening, don’t worry, the exhibit will be on display through Friday, May 1. The Art Center is open Monday – Saturday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Guided group tours are available at an additional cost. Military visitors will receive free guided tours. Book a tour today by calling 217.223.5900. In need of special assistance? Call ahead and the Art Center can help make your visit as accessible and impactful as possible.
