What Do Pensions and Concussions Have in Common?

Associated Press

WUIS stories on pensions, concussions, crop insurance, and tornado recovery are being recognized with four 2013 Illinois Associated Press Broadcasters awards:

Local Radio:

Best Investigative Report: WIUM-FM, “50% Plus One,” Rich Egger
2nd Place: WUIS-FM, “Judges' Pensions”, Amanda Vinicky

Best Hard News Feature: WUIS-FM, “Crop Insurance”, Bill Wheelhouse
2nd Place: WIUM-FM, “50% Plus One”, Rich Egger

Best Sports Report: WUIS-FM, “Rivals Help Tornado-Shattered Team”, Amanda Vinicky
2nd Place: WUIS-FM, “Kids and Concussions”, Peter Gray

Public radio dominated the awards as only one recognition went to a commercial station, WGIL in Galesburg.  Commercial stations secured more slots in the Metro (Chicago) division but Chicago Public Media station WBEZ still had a significant amount of awards.  Another indication of the important role public media is playing in informing citizens.
