A former UIS employee was arrested for the campus burglaries reported on December 18th.
33-year-old Russell Horrighs was a former food service employee from Virden, who was terminated in 2016.
Horrighs is being charged with burglary of the school's main library and Public Affairs Center. UIS spokesperson Derek Schnapp says there is no exact total in damages, but estimates are around a few thousand dollars.
Horrighs is also being charged with Possession of burglary tools, and criminal damage to state supported property. He is currently being held in the Sangamon County Jail.
Authorities say the burglaries occurred in the early morning hours and after most students had left campus for the winter break.
