Gov. Bruce Rauner says he tried to get out of his doomed re-election bid. In an interview with Craig Wall of WLS-TV, Chicago's ABC station, he says he tried and failed to recruit other people to take his place on the ballot.
Meanwhile, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanual is siding with conservative interest groups in calling for a change to the pension protection clause of the Illinois Constitution. He also joined other mayors in calling for a huge increase in the state tax on gasoline and diesel fuel in order to pay for infrastructure.
